Academic Life

The upper school academic day operates on a modified block schedule. Most classes in this program are 90 minutes long and meet every other day throughout the school year. Students are expected to take six classes each semester. Semesters are divided into two grading periods (quarters) and include midterm and final exams. Students participate in elective courses and core academics. Courses offered include: English, history, science, mathematics, world languages (French, Latin, and Spanish), arts, speech, drama, instrumental band, vocal music, journalism (yearbook), computer and Bible.

Beyond the classroom

Robotics

Brentwood Academy's award-winning robotics team, the Iron Eagles, was founded in 2013 by former BA physics teacher Wendy Stallings. The original team won the state competition its first year, going on to compete in the 2014 VEX Robotics World Championship. It has since grown to more than 40 students and has earned several world and state championship titles.

Beyond the classroom

Athletics

We encourage an athletic environment in which Christlike humility and self-discipline are the priorities, cultivating a spirit of competition, teamwork and always doing one’s best. Our emphasis on athletic excellence and our winning tradition must never overshadow the more important goal: to reach students and touch lives for God’s glory.

Beyond the classroom

Arts & Music

We believe every student has unique God-given talents and abilities, and we are committed to helping students discover and explore those gifts to their fullest potential with more than 30 visual and performing arts opportunities available each year at Brentwood Academy.

  • Christian Life

Although Brentwood Academy is not affiliated with any church or religious denomination, the mission of the school is rooted in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Through devotions, assemblies, Bible studies, retreats and service opportunities, our upper school students, faculty and staff articulate the reality of this relationship with Jesus in their lives.

  • College Counseling

We believe that to be effective, college counseling shouldn’t wait until senior year. We provide educational workshops beginning in 8th grade and continuing through senior year with increasingly more involved and individualized programming, encouraging students to self-reflect, discover their passions, develop their minds and take charge of their futures.

  • Leadership

The upper school is under the leadership of Andy Bradshaw, director, with Dan Wilkerson serving as dean of students. Administrative details are handled by Cathy Locke, receptionist, and Jen Beckley, registrar. Students are part of a grade team and select an advisor from among the faculty on that team.
