INTRODUCING
THE AWARD-WINNING ROBOTICS PROGRAM AT BRENTWOOD ACADEMY
Brentwood Academy Iron Eagles Robotics is in its 13th season of competition. Founded in 2013 by the “fabulous five” physics students, the 7th-12th grade program has gone on to bring home numerous awards and qualify for eight consecutive VEX Worlds Championships.
The Iron Eagles Robotics program is the most decorated in the state of Tennessee and has successfully brought home over 400 trophies, including 41 Tennessee State Championship awards, and 21 VEX World Championship awards.
A WORLD-CLASS TEAM
Since its launch, over 250 BA students in grades 6th-12th have competed on an Iron Eagles Robotics Team, and 1/3 of the students have been girls. This year’s program boasts a total of 52 students and ten coaches. Crowning the achievements of this award-winning program is the coveted 2019 VEX World’s Championship Middle School Excellence Award. This award is the highest honor presented to the top robotics program in the world that exemplifies excellence in all areas of the competition. The team has brought home three VEX World's Championship Division Champion trophies (2024 and 2015) and the 2015 VEX World's Championship Design Award.
Over the years, many robotics students have landed in some of the top engineering schools in the country, including MIT, Purdue, Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech, Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, Washington University, Rose-Hulman, Auburn University, and the United States Naval Academy.
IRON EAGLES GIVE BACK
Through the years, Brentwood Academy has been instrumental in helping to establish new robotics teams across the state of Tennessee by training coaches, tournament officials, and providing support for brand-new teams.
In 2018, the Iron Eagles debuted an introductory clawbot tournament for new Tennessee teams to allow students the opportunity to experience a competition without the pressure. This annual event, run by Brentwood Academy students, kicks-off the tournament season each year.
In addition, the Brentwood Academy chapter of the International Robotics Honor Society has been providing mentorship opportunities through their own “Legacy Lessons” program as a means for fostering program growth and sustainability for years to come.

WHAT IS VEX?
VEX Robotics Competition, in collaboration with the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (RECF), is a student-driven program that teaches leadership, collaborative teamwork, creative problem-solving, and technological advancement through the engineering design process throughout the world. VEX manufactures the parts and issues a yearly challenge for which students conceptualize robots, build them from-scratch, program them, and operate to complete designated tasks through various level competitions year-round.
